Thanks To John Carpenter, A Sequel To The Classic Horror The Fog May Be A Possibility

Film director John Carpenter is known for being a legend of sorts in the horror genre with films like Halloween and The Thing. In 1980, Carpenter’s film The Fog left chills down people’s spines as a whole town gets haunted by the crimes that led to the town’s foundation. The film stars Carpenter himself, Debra Hill (Halloween, 1978), Adrienne Barbeau (Swamp Thing, 1982), Janet Leigh (Psycho, 1960), Tom Atkins (Night of the Creeps, 1986), Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild, 2007), Nancy Kyes (The Sea Gypsies) and John Houseman (The Paper Chase).

What Carpenter has said about a possible sequel

The Fog never really got a sequel, despite how most cult classic films tend to be made into a full franchise such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. However, recent events spark hope for the same as coming from Carpenter himself we hear that the sequel may be a possibility. In conversation with NME, he says that there have been some talks regarding a sequel to The Fog. He admits that not just this film, but many of his films have been up for a discussion in terms of a sequel but some or the other reason prevents the same from happening. Carpenter is fully open to the idea of them.

The remake we don’t talk about

In 2005, a remake of The Fog was released, directed by Rupert Wainwright (Stigmata, Blank Check). This film tweaked the original story only slightly, where we see ghosts of sailors who drowned a hundred years ago return to haunt the town, but it could not match up to the original by any means. In Rotten Tomatoes, it only has a 4% rating and on IMDb, it has a 3.7 rating. The critics believed that it was not as well crafted as Carpenter’s film. The Fog (2005) stars Maggie Grace (Lockout, 2012), Tom Welling (Lucifer, 2016), Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions, 1999), DeRay Davis (21 Jump Street, 2012), Kenneth Welsh (The Void, 2016), Sara Botsford (Deadly Eyes, 1982) and Adrian Hough (Charlie St. Cloud, 2010)
