Between June 2014 and September 2015, serial killer Stephen Port drugged, raped, and killed four young men in Barking, Essex. The families of Port’s victims are now being followed in the three-part BBC1 drama Four Lives as they seek for justice. It relates the stories of Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth, and Jack Taylor, Anthony Walgate, four Stephen Port victims, and the way their families and friends have tried tirelessly to find out what happened to them.
Merchant, who most recently starred in the BBC1 comedy The Outlaws, plays murderer Stephen Port, and Sarah Sak, the mother of Port’s first victim Anthony Walgate, is played by Sheridan Smith.
Jeff Pope and Neil McKay, the award-winning team behind earlier factual dramas The Moorside and Appropriate Adult, wrote and produced the drama. David Blair is the director (Care, Reg).

The Barking Murders is a three-part drama written by the award-winning pair of Jeff Pope (Isolation Stories, A Confession) and Neil McKay (The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher, The Moorside) that explores the crimes of Stephen Port, who murdered four young gay men in London in the mid-2010s.
Stephen Merchant (The Outlaws, The Office) plays Stephen Port, while Sarah Sak, the mother of one of the victims, is played by Sheridan Smith (Isolation Stories, The Moorside). The drama centres on the victims’ loved ones, who worked relentlessly to find the truth, as well as the investigation that led to the conviction of a dangerous killer.
