Is “The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem: Season 1” based on a true story?

The Beauty Queen Of Jerusalem Season 1 (2022)

The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem is based on Israeli novelist Sarit Ishai-best-selling Levi’s novel of the same name. The Ermozas, a Sephardic family in Jerusalem whose ladies are cursed to marry men who don’t love them, are the focus of the narrative.

This period drama also serves as a historical picture of Israel, encompassing the Ottoman Empire, the British Mandate, and Israel’s War of Independence.

Luna, played by Swell Ariel Or, is a rookie to the series. Michael Aloni (Fauda), Hila Saada (Beauty and the Baker), and Yuval Scharf (McMafia) are among the Israeli actors who appear alongside her. They portray the Ermozas and others around them as they navigate love and sorrow.

This historical period piece also examines the dynamics between the region’s many civilizations over the twentieth century.

The story offers a unique perspective on the Muslim, Jewish, and Christian populations that coexisted in Pre-Balfour Jerusalem. The novel depicts how community bonds change over time and how destructive the loss of such relationships can be.

The series might go further into the ideas and characters established in the novel. The teaser reveals some significant changes and additions to the book. The fact that there will be a second season might mean that the narratives will be fleshed out further than they were in the original material.

Hebrew, Arabic, and Ladino, a Judeo-Spanish language still spoken in the Sephardic community today, are all featured in the multi-language drama. The use of Ladino is a risky move for an Israeli TV drama, as it is still unusual. Aloni also offers the dubbed English version of his role.
