The Belcher family makes their big-screen debut in The Bob’s Burgers Movie, an animated comedy based on the long-running, Emmy Award-winning sitcom created by Loren Bouchard. The film is humorous, melodic, and mysterious. The family’s company suffers during the summer, which is generally their busiest time of the year, when a sinkhole develops as a result of a neighboring water main breaking. Due to their restaurant making nearly no money and having no simple way to pay off their bank loan, Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and Linda (John Roberts) may have to close it down. While all of this is happening, the children become involved in a murder investigation that may prevent the restaurant from permanently closing and the Belcher family from being homeless. The family relies on one another for support throughout what could be the most trying moment of their life.
The movie contains several of the main characters from Bob’s Burgers, with Benjamin and Roberts leading a cast that also includes Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, and Dan Mintz as the three Belcher children. Returning cast members Kevin Kline, Larry Murphy, Zach Galifianakis, Jenny Slate, David Wain, Aziz Ansari, David Herman, Gary Cole, Brian Huskey, Ron Lynch, and Stephanie Beatriz round out the stellar group. Sam Seder makes a surprise appearance as a special guest.
Due to an unused picture provided by filmmaker Bernard Derriman, the SteelBook cover was planned to show the Belcher family being launched into the air by the ruptured water main. But in the end, the team thought that highlighting Ocean Avenue and all of its recognizable stores would make the argument stronger. The artists said in a statement to Collider about the artwork that they considered fans, street familiarity, and Easter Egg possibilities while creating the cover. The Bob’s Burgers Movie turned out to be a fantastic complement to the series, continuing the endearing Belcher family dynamic in a more compelling narrative that only serves to deepen their friendship.
On July 12, The Bob’s Burgers Movie will be made accessible online, and on July 19, it will premiere on Blu-ray and DVD. The program was just renewed for a 13th season on FOX, so there will be plenty more from animation’s favorite burger joint if the movie wasn’t enough to satisfy your need for more of the Belchers.
