Netflix’s upcoming original horror series “The Chestnut Man,” a Danish crime thriller is based on Søren Sveistrup’s acclaimed novel of the same name. It comes from the creator of “The Killing.”
Based on the trailer, it appears to be just the kind of dark, melancholy crime thriller that fans of Sarah Lund’s Christmas jumper-clad detective abilities will like. The trailer shows dark, gloomy and eerie crime scenes and creepy figurines of a chestnut man. There is an ominous dread as the detectives look around the crime scenes and the background score absolutely nails the unsettling atmosphere.
The Chestnut Man begins with the discovery of a young woman’s death in a playground in a peaceful suburb of Copenhagen. The series is created by SAM Productionswho also produced the Netflix original series Ragnarok. One of the young woman’s hands was removed after she was brutally murdered. A little doll made of chestnuts and matchsticks sits next to her. With her new partner Mark Hess (Mikkel BoeFlsgaard), ambitious young detective Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) is on the hunt for the serial killer terrorising Copenhagen. The killer leaves a chestnut man figurine as his calling card at each of his crime scenes. Thulin and Hess discover a strange piece of evidence on the chestnut man that connects the case to the disappearance of a missing girl—Rosa Hartung, the daughter of a politician who went missing a year ago and was assumed dead.
