Jason Blum Opens Up About New Exorcist Movie – Fans Are Excited!

For several years, a reboot of The Exorcist has been rumoured, with a storey from last December saying Blumhouse will be producing alongside Morgan Creek, with Halloween‘s David Gordon Green in talks to direct. The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin, is widely regarded as the scariest film ever created. Despite the fact that the picture spawned a slew of sequels to go along with Fox’s great television series, no possession film has ever come close to matching it in over 50 years.

While Green is yet to be announced as the next filmmaker to take on The Exorcist, Jason Blum revealed to Den of Geek that Blumhouse will be producing the film. Blum teases a new direction for the second Exorcist, comparing it to what they did with John Carpenter’s Halloween, in an unusual turn in the conversation.

According to Blum, it will be similar to David’s Halloween sequel. He was sure that all the sceptics out there will be pleasantly surprised. They had a lot of sceptics about Halloween, but David won them over, and Blum believes he’ll do the same with The Exorcist.

This is in no way a confirmation of any story direction, but it might be interpreted as Blum hinting at a new film that will retcon all of the Exorcist sequels and usher in a new era inspired by the 1973 masterpiece’s ending. Whatever the case may be, his goal is to please both new and old audiences, which is a difficult challenge.

Since the 2005 release of Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist, an alternate version of the previous year’s Exorcist: The Beginning, the Exorcist franchise hasn’t been seen on the big screen. Those films followed The Exorcist II: The Heretic from 1977 and The Exorcist III from 1990.

More recently, “The Exorcist” was adapted into a Fox television series that was unexpectedly good. We can’t wait to see what Blum and Green have in store.
