1984’s fantasy novel The Talisman was written by Stephen King and Peter Straub and although it shares its title with Walter Scott’s novel from 1825, it does not share its plotline. King’s novel follows a young boy named Jack through his adventures after he finds a crystal named the Talisman and uses it to find his mother and save her. A few years ago, it was reported that The Talisman would be adapted into film by Mike Barker (The Handmaid’s Tale), but now plans have changed as it will be Steven Spielberg (Schindler’s List) and the Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things) who will be bringing this project to life.
The details we have till now
The show will be produced by Netflix in collaboration with Amblin Television and Paramount while Curtis Gwenn will serve as both writer and showrunner. Spielberg had acquired rights to this novel back in 1982. Right now, it is very early in its development stages to have any more details revealed, but as fans wait for more updates, giving the book a read is certainly worth it. King’s writing has always involved fantasy and themes of the supernatural, allowing fans to get lost in his mystical world, and in The Talisman, they can do so by escaping to the Territories that 12 year old Jack goes through.

Grounds for a sequel have already been laid
In 2001, both King and Straub got together to pen a sequel to this book titled Black House, which sees Jack as a retired detective from Los Angeles living now in Wisconsin and helping solve homicide cases in the town of French Landing. Perhaps if The Talisman’s film pans out well, a sequel adaptation is also not a far-fetched thought. Calling the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining would be an understatement and many years after the film released a sequel was made based on the book’s sequel Doctor Sleep. Filmmaker Mike Flanagan did quite a decent job creating the spooky movie. Given how that was a possibility that Stephen was open to (thankfully), a Talisman sequel would be something to look out for.
