Vampires have always captivated the public imagination, from Bram Stoker’s Dracula through Twilight and subsequent Hollywood vampire adaptations. They are recognized for their seductive and attractive character, as well as their oozing sexiness as they suck the blood from their prey. Vampirella, a vampire femme fatale widely recognized as one of the sexiest women in comics (a front that has also dived into the vampire genre with intense vigor), is the subject of this film.
Everything about her, from her sumptuous figure to her fighting prowess, captivates you and makes you want to watch her for the rest of your life. Vampirella originally appeared in a comic book in 1969, and she has maintained her position as the sexiest vampire to ever grace the pages of a comic book since then. Keep an eye on her since she is a night maiden to be reckoned with!
The first comic appearance and origins explored
According to the publishing house that published Vampirella’s stories at different points in time, her history and origin were modified and amended. Her original beginnings, however, are as follows according to her debut appearance in the comic titled Vampirella issue #1 released in 1969.
Vampirella was born on the planet Drakulon, where a vampiric species thrived off of blood, and rivers of blood gushed throughout the planet. On this planet, water had the same constitution as blood and thus we see Vampirella bathe and drink the same blood at the same time in the opening pages of the comic. Vampirella and her race face inevitable doom as Drakulon’s twin suns were shining too bright, drying up all the blood and creating blood droughts across the globe. Her people were dying from starvation and the ones that were surviving were terribly weakened.
In this issue, we also get to know about Vampirella’s race, the Vampiri. They had the ability to shift into bats at command, exhibited superhuman physical abilities, sprouted wings when required to fly, and drank blood. However, even with all these powers and abilities, the residents of Drakulon began to die slowly as the blood supply dried up.
As luck would have it, a spaceship from Earth crash-landed on their planet during those difficult times. Vampirella decided to investigate because she was interested to see what the gigantic object was. However, the moment she approached it in her bat form, she was assaulted by the survivors of the wreckage. She retaliated and while fighting discovered that the astronauts had blood flowing through their veins. This immediately gave her an idea and she practically imagined putting humans in gigantic test tubes and draining them of their blood to bring in fresh blood supply to her species. She piloted the ship back to Earth, where her travels began, in order to find a way to ensure her people’s survival.
Vampirella in her movie appearance
Vampirella’s movie appearance is exactly what you’d expect and much more. The stunning and voluptuous seductress appears in all her glory played by actress Talisa Soto. The direct-to-video movie, titled Vampirella was released in the year 1996 and quickly gained a cult following among fans of the comics and the gothic horror genre as a whole. “Thirsty for justice, she’ll settle for blood.”
The film opens on Drakulon, a planet populated by vampires who feed on rivers flowing with blood. However, this planet becomes the site of a massacre when a vampire called Vlad murders all of the planet’s leaders and flees to Earth. One of those dead is Ella’s father and thus she begins seeking vengeance from Vlad. On Earth, she takes the name Vampirella as she travels from Drakulon to Earth in order to avenge her father’s murder by evil vampires. She is not, however, alone in her search, as she is assisted by the gorgeous and intriguing Adam Van Helsing, leader of a high-tech, globe-trotting anti-vampire unit.
They learn Vlad has taken on the identity of a rock star to help blend into Earth’s civilization as they slash through Vlad’s troop of soldiers. They hear about a scheme to take over the Earth by installing a series of satellites in its orbit to shut out the Sun, giving vampires sufficient vigor to rise and take control. Working together, they are able to derail the plot, beat the vampire, and bring him to justice.
Vampirella is in her full glory in this film, fighting her way to seek revenge on the man that murdered her father, although people who were expecting to see Vampirella in the nude will definitely be disappointed. This is a nice solid entry that is interesting on its own terms, with some really great moments and some truly trying ones. There’s a lot of action, violence, and fun in this film, and there’s never a dull moment.
It is a true camp favorite. The weird special effects and low-budget nature of the remainder of the film add a certain level of fun that really enhances this. Sexy women in scant outfits battling each other on cheap-looking sets with really no actual fighting is delightfully entertaining and provides some fantastic moments for the film.
For fans of the comic, this is a good way to see their favorite sexy vampire come to life. It accomplishes its job as a film about a comic book character if you see it for what it is. It’s camp, and that’s precisely what it really is.
Vampi – the alternate futuristic version
Futuristic vampires have often caught the fancy of comic book and movie scriptwriters resulting in works such as the famous movie series, Blade Runner which has a major fan following. Clearly, the genre has space for growth and creativity and this is where Vampi comes in, a comic book series published by Anarchy Studio, where the titular character appears for the first time in 2000.
The series follows Vampi, a futuristic incarnation of Vampirella who is looking for a cure for her vampirism and will fight whoever it takes to obtain it. The primary series lasted 25 issues. Vampi Vicious, Vampi Vicious Circle, Vampi Vicious Rampage, and Vampi vs. Xin were among the miniseries that followed. Dynamite Entertainment released an omnibus collection of the first eighteen issues of the original run in 2012.
What makes her so powerful?
Vampirella’s abilities have changed slightly throughout her incarnations. If she overworks herself or takes too much injury, her physical powers will be impaired, and she will need to feed on blood to regain her physical strength. Superstrength, super speed, strength, durability, and even flying are among her more prevalent powers.
Vampirella has a long list of achievements to her credit. She has taken down a helicopter using a ship’s chain and anchor while in flight. She’s also punched a man through multiple stories of a building and into the propeller blades of a helicopter, resulting in a horrible conclusion for him. She has changed her pace in a handful of her runs, although she has been proved to have rather stable FTE speeds, even when compared to other vampires’ increased senses.
She also possesses an enhanced healing factor, yet she must have a specific volume of blood in her body or her healing factor would significantly slow down. On the durability front, she’s taken hits from tonners, survived multistorey falls, and even survived a xenomorph breaking out from within her chest. She also possesses senses much beyond those of most humans. Vee has used scent to follow her adversaries across Paris, demonstrated increased hearing by sensing heartbeats in a building, and demonstrated near-perfect eyesight in the darkness.
With the exception of the future Vampi, all versions of Vampirella have been capable of flying. Early versions did so by transforming into a bat, while later incarnations could grow wings from their backs and additional versions could transform arms into bat-wing-like extensions. Vampirella can also develop claws from the tips of her fingers that are capable of slashing through angelic armor as well as human and beast flesh. And, best of all, she is immune to all of the usual vampire weaknesses.
Vampirella has been a cult classic character for years now. She’s older than most people who watch this channel, debuting all the way back in 1969. But immortal as she is, she continues to enthrall men to this day. Her status as one of the sexiest women to ever feature in comics is set in stone due to her alluring beauty. However, she does not just look – she is a badass fighter in her own right, defeating humans and beasts with surprising ease. What do you think about Vampirella?
