American comedy crime film How to Deter A Robber released in 2020 and directed by Maria Bissell. Recently, Shout! Studios has acquired this film’s North American rights from XYZ Films and will be releasing it soon. The film’s story centres on a young girl and her boyfriend living in Wisconsin and finding themselves fending off their house against a couple of amateur robbers. This film stars Vanessa Marano (Saving Zoë, 2019), Benjamin Papac (Goosebumps, 2015), Chris Mulkey (Captain Phillips, 2013), Gabrielle Carteris (Raising Cain, 1992), Leah Lewis (The Half of It, 2020), Arnold Y Kim (Trainwreck, 2015), Abbie Cobb (Teenage Bank Heist, 2012) as well as Sonny Valicenti (The Conway Curve, 2017).
What North American viewers can expect
Shout! Studios is a multi-entertainment platform branch of Shout! Factory has acquired all broadcast, theatrical, Blu-Ray, DVD, Streaming Video On Demand and Digital North American rights to How to Deter A Robber. They have a detailed plan relating to the dates of release of this film on different entertainment platforms across North America, and mostly all of them will be later this year. XYZ Films will still own the other rights to this film and continue its distribution internationally via the upcoming European Film Market. The Vice President of Acquisitions at Shout! Jordan Fields believes that this film was a right choice for distribution because of Bissell’s great direction of bringing together tension and comedy and because of Marano’s acting prowess.

Director Bissell claimed that she was more than happy that her debut feature found a home at Shout! They have always done great work with genre films, especially those with newer filmmakers. Previously, Shout! Studios has released films such as Bloodsucking Bastards (2015), Jackals (2017), Itsy Bitsy (2019), Rabid (2019), The Pond (2021), Deathcember (2020), Mermaid: Lake of the Dead (2019) and many more.
