Vinland Saga Season 2 – Everything We Know So Far

After almost a year of teasing, fans of ‘Vinland Saga’ continue to wait for the second season of the historical anime series.

“Vinland Saga” is a manga and anime set around 1000 CE, during the Viking age. The series tells the story of Icelandic explorer Thorfinn Karlsefni, son of a legendary ex-warrior named Thors. In spite of his prowess, Thors is a pacifist who sacrifices himself to protect his village.

The 6-year-old Thorfinn tries to find the mercenaries who killed his father against his father’s wishes in an attempt to one day learn to duel their leader, Askeladd. In general, the manga is based on real historical events of the time, though it takes many liberties with the characters and events.

Originally published by the Kodansha publishing company in 2005, the manga was created by Makoto Yukimura. A 24-episode anime adaptation of the manga was produced by Wit in 2019, all the way up to its 54th chapter. Although only a portion of the source material has been adapted, fans are eager to see the rest of the story fully animated. There have been hints from the show’s creators that Season 2 is on the way, but there have been no official announcements.

When will Vinland Saga Season 2 released?

“Vinland Saga” Season 2 hasn’t been officially announced, so a release date can’t be determined. There have been hints, however, that it will be produced. A drawing of three main characters of “Vinland Saga” was posted on Twitter by series director Shuhei Yabuta in September 2020. Runes drawn underneath each character are supposed to spell out sea, son, and two

By combining the phonetics of these words, we get “Season 2.”. Yabuta dismissed any preconceived notions, saying “there is no deeper meaning.”

Abiru Takahiko, the animation director of “Vinland Saga,” posted in March 2021 that another project had distracted him from “Attack on Titan” and “The Ancient Magus Bride.”. Several fans speculated that his “other work” is “Vinland Saga” Season 2. However, this is merely speculation.

Based on this information, it was estimated that Season 2 would arrive in the latter part of 2021 or early 2022. However, this is nothing more than speculation. As of March 2022, there is no news about Season 2 of Vinland Saga.

Fans may be eager to see Thorfinn’s adventures continue – especially after Season 1’s jarring ending – but they’ll have to wait until Wit Studio makes an official announcement.

What will Vinland Saga Season 2’s plot focus on?

The first season ended with a huge turning point for each of the characters. Following his father’s death, Thorfinn has been hell-bent on seeking revenge. Finally, he had the chance to avenge his father’s death after he comes face to face with Askeladd in a duel. However, Thorfinn is not up to the task to defeat his father’s killer yet, not when his anger and emotions get in the way. Askeladd, Thorkell, and Thorfinn were already working for the Danish Prince Canute. They joined forces to overthrow King Sweyn and put Canute in power.

When the Danish king planned to attack Wales, Askeladd felt trapped. Askeladd beheaded King Sweyn and sacrificed himself so that Canute could seize the opportunity to take over the throne.

Askeladd lost his life in the process, and Thorfinn was taken aback by the death of the man he had wanted revenge against for so long. Thorfinn was brought to an unknown location before he could injure the newly-crowned Canute.

We are expecting the second season to remain faithful to its source material; we will see a continuation of Canute’s story when the anime returns.

In the manga, a time skip in the narrative follows after Canute was banished to a faraway place. Thorfinn gets sold into the Scandinavian slave trade. He loses his will to live and his sense of purpose in life. He mindlessly followed every command of his new masters until he meets another slave named Einar. Einar’s arrival will change Thorfinn’s perspective in life again. The two will work together to earn their freedom and start a new, peaceful life.

Slowly, Thorfinn rediscovers his new purpose and finds another reason to continue to live again. The first season focused on Thorfinn’s mission to get revenge. However, now that his father’s assailant is dead, the second season, if greenlighted, will have to explore a new chapter of his life.
