Following a festival run that began with its world premiere at SXSW, Disney has announced that the National Geographic Documentary feature “We Feed People” will be available on Disney+ on Friday, May 27, 2022.
“We Feed People,” directed by Ron Howard and produced by Brian Grazer and Imagine Documentaries, follows chef José Andrés and his nonprofit World Central Kitchen as they grow from a scrappy group of grassroots volunteers to one of the most highly regarded humanitarian aid organizations in the disaster relief sector over the course of 12 years.
Andrés and the World Central Kitchen crew, as the world’s most visible food-focused first responders, have sprung into action, combatting hunger in the aftermath of disasters by serving over 60 million meals to date.
The documentary follows Andrés and his colleagues throughout the world as they address the escalating environmental and humanitarian crises that harm our world the best way they know how: via food. It has rare access to World Central Kitchen’s initiatives and archives.
World Central Kitchen’s cooperation with local chefs to feed affected people and first responders is featured in-depth in the video, which has instilled an unprecedented feeling of optimism in these communities. The video examines the restoration of community and the activation of change—one meal at a time—from the frontlines of a crisis to the backrooms of the kitchen.
“We are delighted to continue our successful partnership with Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and the ferociously talented team at Imagine Documentaries, who share our passion for impactful and authentic storytelling,” Sara Bernstein, executive VP global scripted content and documentary films for National Geographic, said in a statement about the film last year.
Imagine Entertainment’s Michael Rosenberg and Louisa Velis, World Central Kitchen’s Nate Mook and Richard Wolffe, and National Geographic Documentary Films’ Carolyn Bernstein and Ryan Harrington will executive produce “We Feed People.”
