Season 4 of Westworld will premiere on June 26, 2022. The series will consist of eight episodes, two fewer than the prior three seasons. Following the launch, a new episode will be released every week until the season finale on August 14, 2022.
For Westworld Season 4, the majority of the key cast from the first three seasons will return. But don’t get your hopes up; any return character could just be a reincarnation of their prior self, which could mean a completely different interpretation.
Thandiwe Newton will continue her role as Maeve Millay, as of this writing. She’ll continue to collaborate with Aaron Paul as Caleb Nichols and Jeffery Wright as Bernard Lowe/Arnold Weber. Ashley Stubbs will be played by Luke Hemsworth, and The Man in Black will be played by Ed Harris. Tessa Thompson will reprise her role as Charlotte Hale/Dolores Abernathy, and Evan Rachel Wood will reprise her role as Dolores. Ariana DeBose will also be a recurring guest star on Westworld Season 4, however, her character has yet to be revealed.
Other characters, including those who died in previous seasons, are likely to reappear in season 4 because all they need to do is return to another ‘host’ body.
Nolan and Joy have remained tight-lipped about the series’ potential narrative. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, though, Nolan discussed how he and Joy have always wanted each season to be unique:
When Lisa and I were discussing the show a while back, one of the interesting things about it was the show’s potential to switch genres every season and the encouragement to do so.
‘Genre’ was the title of an episode this season. We had a film in [the first Westworld film] where Crichton was purposefully experimenting with the notion of genre. We thought we had an open invitation to experiment, especially at a time when the television is always reinventing itself, to have a show that reinvented itself season after season. It effectively takes advantage of a genre’s pre-established parameters. You can watch a western, a samurai film, a war film, or a science fiction film.
There have been many different visions of the future depicted in films over the years. We get to mess around with everything and write the wording for it. So, do you think the next season will seem different and distinct from the past seasons in terms of genre? Yes, that is an integral aspect of the show’s framework.
