“JUICE WRLD: INTO THE ABYSS” is one of the upcoming HBO’s Music Box documentary series, directed by Tommy Oliver. Formerly known as The Party Never End, this music history doc film provides an “intimate” and often eye-opening exploration of the life and all-too-short career of Late wunderkind rapper “Juice WRLD”whose real name was Jarad A. Higgins.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of Juice WRLD‘s prolific music making and his freestyles as told by himself and those closest to him. A dynamic, real-time account of the Chicago native who was already heading for superstardom and streaming supremacy at the age of 18, when his song “Lucid Dreams” became an overnight sensation.
Behind the bright lights and the road to legendary status, the young man was also dealing with severe drug addiction and debilitating mental health issues. However, in December 2019, Juice WRLD passed away during a flight to Chicago.
The rap world mourned his passing, which was made even more devastating due to his young age. The film includes a wealth of never-before-seen footage, unreleased music, and dozens of industry interviews as it details Juice WRLD’s struggles to navigate his meteoric rise to fame, his drug use, and mental health issues.
Juice WRLD has left behind a lot of completed songs and collaborations, many of which are still coming out to this day, with his first posthumous LP Legends Never Die coming out in 2020. The second LP, Fighting Demons, is planned for release around the same time as the documentary.
