After escaping from an abusive relationship, 23-year-old single mother Alex turns to housekeeping to make ends meet and escape homelessness to give her daughter, Maddy a better life.
What follows is a sort of rags-to-riches story as Alex tries to piece her life back together. She works at a rackety firm owned by an unforgiving woman. Within it is an unflinching anatomization of the red tape that surrounds all the efforts to access the help supposedly available to all desperate women and their children.
