All Witcher fans are excited to know that their favourite Netflix show is back for season 2. The Witcher is an epic fantasy story set in a world, where magic, humanoids, gnomes and monsters exist. The eight episodes of The Witcher season 2 are set to continue the story of the eponymous, monster-hunting Geralt of Rivia, played once again by big-screen Superman Henry Cavill.
The Witcher is based on the short story written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski which inspired three video games of increasing quality. The Witcher’s hero Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a traveling monster hunter who spends his days just trying to make a living in a scary, bizarre world; a witcher whose destiny becomes bound to the sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and the powerful princess Ciri (Freya Allan).
Geralt’ destiny gets linked to an exiled princess Ciri, and a powerful sorceress Yennefer, who finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. It is up to Geralt and Yennefer to protect Ciri from physical harm and prevent her from becoming a political pawn. The first season of the show ended with Geralt and Ciri uniting, though Yennefer’s whereabouts and fate ended with a cliffhanger.
The Witcher season 2 story will focus on the Witcher’s efforts to keep the princess safe – while dealing with the fact she’s more powerful than anyone imagined. There’s also the aftermath of the bloody Battle of Sodden to deal with. Geralt also meets Nivellan, a character in the story who is half man and half-beast.
Season 1 of The Witcher was welcomed with open hands by the fans and season 2 is expected to be better than season 1. We’re expecting more magic, more monsters and more morally complex characters when the show returns to Netflix in December 2021.
