According to a BBC review, it is the most disturbing film of 2021. On July 13, 2021, the film had its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival, where Ducournau became only the second female filmmaker to win the Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest honor.
What is Titane about?
The film, directed and written by Julia Ducournau, chronicles a sequence of mysterious incidents in which a father is reunited with his missing kid after ten years. Titane is a metal very resistant to heat and corrosion, with high tensile strength alloys, according to the image’s logline. After Jane Campion’s The Piano in 1993, Ducournau became the second female filmmaker to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
Agathe Rousselle, a newcomer, plays Alexia, a young woman who was injured in a childhood vehicle accident caused by her father’s negligence. Her head was equipped with a titanium plate, which has given her a survivor’s harshness – a damaged animosity, but also, perhaps, a need for a true father figure.
She now works as a dancer at auto exhibitions and advertising events, where she is constantly harassed by weird macho men. When one of these admirers goes too far, Alexia retaliates with chillingly brutal vengeance and flees, disguising herself as a boy to avoid the cops. The movie follows her on this bizarre, body horror journey.
Where to watch Titane
NEON has announced a theatrical release date for Titane, the distributor’s second Cannes Picture Festival Palme d’Or winner after Bong Joon Ho’s 2019 Parasite, which went on to win a record Best Picture Oscar for a foreign film. The film was acquired by NEON in September of this year and will be released in theatres on the 1st of October.
