Sometimes all you need is a little tough love — just ask Hilary Farr! Great news for interior designer Hilary Farr fans, known for using her signature wit and grit to get things done while starring alongside real estate agent David Visentin on HGTV’s Love It Or List It, will be venturing out on her own with a solo show “Tough Love with Hilary Farr” on the network.
The eight-episode reality show will follow Farr who uses her invaluable design expertise and life experience to help families turn their dysfunctional, disorganized homes into dream spaces they can call their own. “Upgrading these spaces will be a challenge, but transforming these homeowners’ lives is where the real work begins,” Farr says. “The end result is always worth it.”
Throughout the eight episodes, Farr will tackle a variety of home problems, from updating outdated properties to creating a suite for extended family stays and helping new couples blend their belongings for the first time. As a mom, business owner and life partner, Hilary will draw inspiration from her extensive design experience, as well as her own life lessons, as she develops creative solutions to get these families’ lives back on track.
The premiere episode will feature a newly married couple who desperately need Hilary’s expertise as they bring their family under one roof for the first time. Their challenges include a severe lack of storage, entertaining, and home office space, as Hilary will develop a design plan to solve these issues and ultimately improve the home’s flow.
She will find extra space in surprising places, such as converting unused garage space into a stunning home office and upgrading the bland basement into an entertaining party zone complete with wet bar and high-top table for guests. During the series, Hilary will find solutions for a variety of home design challenges, including updating properties that seem frozen in time, finding extra room in small houses and adding a suite for extended family visits.
Hilary cedes she is “a bit short on the sugar” and lets people know exactly her thoughts. And that blending a family is way more than just bringing people together. She tells a couple that they have to make the house make sense and work for two people. She’ll not only be using her design expertise to revamp homes in a way that better serves each family, but also using her own personal experiences in life to help them strengthen their bond with each other. She’s part designer, part life coach.
