Turning Red, Disney’s new American computer-animated fantasy comedy, is the third Pixar movie after Soul and Luca, which will premiere directly on Disney+ and skip a theatrical release. The Academy Award-winner Domee Shi won an Oscar for the adorable Pixar short Bao, directing it and marking Turning Red the first Pixar movie solely directed by a woman. Shi and Julia Cho write this coming-of-age comedy. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has handled its distribution, and Lindsey Collins produced it.
Compared to other Pixar movies, Turning Red has a more magical approach to youth life. The film set in Toronto, Canada, between 2002 and 2003, is all about a dorky 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian girl, namely Mei Lee, who is uncertain between staying her mother’s obedient daughter and being adventurous.
Mei Lee suddenly turns into a giant red panda whenever she goes through changes in her interests, relationships, and as well as in her body as feeling too many emotions, being so much excited or stressed, which is quite natural for an excitable youngster.
The film’s voice cast includes Rosalie Chiang, playing main character Mei, Sandra Oh casting as Mei’s mother, and Orion Lee starring as Mei’s dad. The other voice casts are Ava Morse, Wai Ching Ho, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Tristan Allerick Chen, Hyein Park, Addie Chandler, Jordan Fisher, Lori Tan Chinn, Mia Tagano, Sasha Roiz, Lillian Lim, Sherry Cola, Lily Sanfelippo, and James Hong.
Apart from this, the movie’s original songs are written by BillishEilish and Finneas O’Connell. The performance of a fictional band 4Town having Josh Levi, Grayson Villanueva, O’Connell, Topher Ngo, and Jordan Fisher members will steal the hearts of teenage girls in ‘Turning Red.’
