Directed and produced by Justine Bateman, Violet is her directorial debut. It stars Olivia Munn, Luke Bracey, and Justin Theroux. Violet, a film executive, realizes that her entire life is built on fear-based decisions.
It is very crowded in Violet’s head. Firstly there is a voice that reminds one of a demeaning male bully, constantly telling Violet that she is worthless. When it speaks the screen turns red and the loud electronic humming causes Violet’s ears to ring.
The second is a continuously running commentary that is quieter and less sure of itself, appearing as loopy cursive text across the screen. There are also memories of her children that get projected on random surfaces. It’s all very overwhelming.
Her guiding voice has been lying to her about everything. She must now learn how to trust her heart and redo everything differently to become her true self. As the tables turn, she also finds out that the love of her life is closer than she thinks.
