As another 365 days of craziness and uncertainty comes to a close, Amazon will say goodbye to another rollercoaster year 2021 with a second edition of the comedy special Yearly Departed that is coming back to grace our screens in December.
Yearly Departed is a hilarious, absurd, life-affirming, comedy special, bringing together a roster of seven outspoken female comedians to rest the year that never seemed to end. The inaugural Yearly Departed, which eulogized 2020, received a WGA Award nomination in the Comedy/Variety Specials category and won a Gracie Award.
The one-hour special show will feature an all-female line-up like last time. This comedic gathering will be hosted by Emmy Award-nominee, Yvonne Orji (Insecure), a Nigerian-American actress and comedian to “bid farewell to everything we’re leaving behind in 2021, including Hot Vaxx Summer, Hermit Life, Ignoring the Climate Crisis and everyone’s favourite video meeting platform, Zoom,”.
Joining Orji this year are some of the world’s funniest ladies to deliver eulogies to our least favourite parts of 2021, including two-time Academy Award-winning actor Jane Fonda (Grace and Frankie) and Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
It also stars Meg Stalter (Hacks), Dulcé Sloan (The Daily Show), Aparna Nancherla (The Great North), and X Mayo (The Daily Show) in the special, along with Alessia Cara who will deliver a musical send-off to everything we are leaving behind this year.
The special comes from Amazon Studios with Done+Dusted and Scrap Paper Pictures. Bess Kalb will continue as the head writer and Emmy Award-winner Linda Mendoza (Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready) returns as the director for this year’s special.
After another tumultuous year, the women of Yearly Departed invite you to reflect, rejoice, and raise a glass (or several) to everything we’re leaving in the past, capped off by a special performance by Grammy-winning pop star Alessia Cara,” reads Prime Video’s release.
