Alma, a recently divorced forty-something research scientist at Berlin’s beautiful Pergamon Museum, is completely focused on her profession. She’s persuaded to engage in an exceptional study by her boss, who convinces her to live with a human-like robot made only to be her ideal partner for three weeks.
What is I’m Your Man about?
Alma, played by Maren Eggert is introduced in I’m Your Man as a lady who will go to any length to gain enough money for her studies. Alma is given the golden opportunity as part of a weird experiment in which she is forced to share her life with Tom, played by Dan Stevens, a robot that is suited to every woman’s desire – at least according to marketing brochures.
The goal of the experiment is to test a new Artificial Intelligence that can theoretically perfectly replicate human behaviour. Alma, on the other hand, is not thrilled to be a part of the experiment.
Alma understands she’s living with a robot, even if Tom is passionate, honest, and always eager to help with housework, which is unsettling, at least until Alma begins to connect with Tom and questions the meaning of human life.
Where to watch I’m Your Man?
Berlinale announced on February 11, 2021 that the film would premiere in March 2021 in the Berlinale Competition section of the 71st Berlin International Film Festival. Bleecker Street bought the rights to distribute in the United States shortly after. It will be released on September 17, 2021, in the United States.
There is no word on when it will be available for viewing on mainstream streaming platforms as of yet.
