The five half-hour vignettes in this show, all written or co-authored by show creator and former “The Office” actor/writer, B.J. Novak, address issues of the time: Bullying and wealth disparity are discussed, as well as the public’s relationship with celebrity, the self-serving character of social-justice advocates, and social media addiction.
What is The Premise about?
Each of The Premise’s five episodes is a modern dramedy that tackles current issues such as corrupt policing, gun rights, bullying, celebrity worship, wokeness, and internet trolling. This anthology series, which explores timeless moral dilemmas in unprecedented times, pulls controversial subjects into the light, providing three-dimensional, character-driven stories with humour and heart.
All of these half-hour plays have excellent casts, capable of elevating the subject at times. Lola Kirke, for example, is fantastic as Allegra, an influencer and health expert whose seemingly perfect life begins to tear when an online troll causes her to second-guess her life choices in “The Commenter.”
A lot of the action in “The Commenter” is internal, with Allegra reading the troll’s statements in voiceover; and Kirke gently portrays the character’s developing uncertainty and anxiety, illustrating how she grows increasingly preoccupied and aloof.
Where to Stream The Premise?
“The Premise” premieres on FX on Hulu on Thursday, September 16. The series will be only available for viewing on this particular platform.
The Walt Disney Company and Comcast hold Hulu, an internet streaming service. Hulu was founded as a joint venture between News Corporation and NBC Universal in the early 2000s.
Is The Premise on Netflix?
Neflix’s wide selection of movies and streaming shows does not include The Premise as of now and it is unlikely that it will be included in Netflix’s library.
