    Where To Watch “Agnes”?

Agnes is a horror drama film directed by Mickey Reece and featuring Hayley McFarland as the eponymous character, released in 2021.

The plot of the movie revolves around a church investigation into the weird goings-on among the nuns is prompted by rumours of demonic possession at a monastic monastery. Temptation, murder, and a religious crisis face a disgruntled priest and his neophyte.

Agnes pulls off a multi-pronged balancing performance, deftly moving not just between what appears to be two independent films, but also between two distinct genres and tones. The nuns (who include Rachel True from The Craft) are typically given the greatest and funniest lines in the first half of the film, especially when they’re all clustered by the window to fawn over Benjamin upon his arrival.

When the camera shifts to Mary, the picture seamlessly transitions from horror humour to thriller drama, and its unusual camera motions are replaced with ones that are more appropriate for a more grounded reality (cinematography credited to Samuel Calvin). The dubious nature of Father Donaghue’s charges is mostly ignored, but it lends an extra, challenging depth to this figure with whom we’re obliged to identify at first.
