BELOW DECK DOWN UNDER is a Peacock Original series that follows the crew of the M/Y Thalassa as they deal with a revolving group of demanding charter customers against the breathtaking backdrop of the tropical Whitsunday Islands and the world-famous Great Barrier Reef in northeastern Australia.
Captain Jason Chambers is joined by a familiar face in Chief Stew, fan-favorite Aesha Scott, as well as newcomers Chef Ryan McKeown and Bosun Jamie Sayed, this season. Deckhands Culver Bradbury, Brittini Burton, and Ben Crawley join Stews Tumi Mhlongo and Magda Ziomek on board. The new captain, who sets the tone for the entire crew, is a hands-on leader who will go above and beyond to ensure that the guests have an unforgettable vacation, which will include fascinating underwater adventures such as scuba diving, snorkeling, and some close encounters with marine life.
Though the dynamics on board appear to be smooth sailing at first, a plethora of problems occurs as the Chef immediately falls out of step with Chief Stew. When the Bosun’s rigid management style is questioned by a free-spirited team member who despises rules, the deck crew gets into difficulty.
Meanwhile, on the interior, Chief Stew Aesha learns the hard way that her friend-first approach to work will not be appreciated by everyone on her team. In between charters, the yachties burn off steam by partaking in Australia’s world-famous nightlife, which is full of drama, surprising flirtations, and wild escapades. Jason Chambers is the youngest Captain in the “Below Deck” franchise, having been born and raised in Australia.
He is athletic, personable, and enjoys adventure, but he is also a strong leader who understands when to enforce the rules. He leads by example as a captain, maximizing the strengths of each crew member. He is equally as entertaining as he is tough, and will occasionally join the team for a night out, encouraging everyone to find excitement in their employment.
