Netflix has lowered its subscription pricing in India, attempting to maintain its dominance in the country’s highly competitive subscription-video-on-demand (SVoD) sector.

Netflix hiked the price of its monthly subscription packages in the United States by $1 to $2, boosting income and allowing the company to spend more money on programming.

The price hikes range from a $1 rise for Netflix’s basic plan, which only permits one user at a time, to a $2 increase for the premium service, which includes an ultra-high-definition picture and four screens. In the United States, the company’s regular plan now costs $15.49, an increase of $1.50.

The most recent price increase by the streaming industry leader was in October 2020, when the base plan was increased by $1. It has been increasing them every one or two years for the past few years. In Canada, where the mid-tier subscription costs C$16.49, Netflix upped pricing as well.

Netflix’s ‘Basic’ package, which offers standard definition (SD) playing on a single mobile, tablet, computer, or television screen, has been cut from Rs 499 to Rs 199 per month.

The popular mobile-only plan has also been reduced in price, from Rs 199 to Rs 149 per month.

Users who subscribe to Netflix on the ‘Standard’ tier will pay Rs 499 per month instead of Rs 649. Two simultaneous screens and high-definition (HD) playback are supported by the base tier subscription.

Netflix’s most costly ‘Premium’ subscription tier is now Rs 649 per month, down from Rs 799 previously.
