If you assume Italian Studies is the same as Italian Community, you’re mistaken. The film, directed by Adam Leon, follows Alina Reynolds (Vanessa Kirby) on a journey through the unknowns of New York City while trying to remember her own identity. She’s lost her memories, but she finds solace in a charismatic adolescent (Simon Brickner) who leads her across the cityscape.
Strangers, both real and imaginary, remind her that she is a writer who has written a book about teenagers. Alina doesn’t know Simon, despite the fact that she should, yet she trusts him as they explore the city. Simon tells her, “I think you’re very obviously special.” “Because no one else would have come with me.” It’s against social conventions, yet you don’t seem to mind.”
