Where To Watch “NOVA: Alaskan Dinosaurs”?

Fearless paleontologists use chainsaws to retrieve fossils frozen in permafrost and drones to trace hundreds of footprints to uncover those dinosaurs who lived in the most unlikely of places: the cold and darkness of the Arctic Circle. How could they stay alive all year and raise their children in the bitter cold and darkness of winter?

NOVA is the most-watched primetime science series in the United States, with an average of five million viewers per episode. The series, now in its sixth decade of production, continues dedicated to providing in-depth science programming in the form of one-hour documentaries and long-form mini-series, covering everything from the most recent technological advancements to the deepest secrets of the natural world.

In a new episode of the science documentary series Nova, scientists studying the planet’s northernmost dinosaurs will take PBS viewers to their field locations and labs.

“Alaskan Dinosaurs,” a GBH production, follows Patrick Druckenmiller, director and researcher of the University of Alaska Museum of the North, as well as Florida State University scientist Gregory Erickson and other collaborators, as they discover fossilized bones, footprints, and an Arctic dinosaur nursery.

The Nova crew worked with Druckenmiller and his colleagues on the Colville River on Alaska’s North Slope and in Denali National Park, as well as at the paleontology lab at the University of Alaska Museum of the North, throughout the past year. A rare winter visit to the Colville River location was one of their trips.

The team’s research has led to the discovery of a number of new prehistoric animal species as well as new insights on the lives of dinosaurs during the Cretaceous Period.
