The Girl Before, a BBC One and HBO Max drama starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jessica Plummer, follows two women who share “unnerving” similarities.
David Oyelowo plays a visionary architect who creates the unusual mansion both ladies reside in three years apart in the upcoming psychological four-part thriller, which was unveiled in March this year.
It’s a twist-filled limited series based on JP Delaney’s 2018 bestseller of the same name, with a lady pondering if living in an impressive building with tight regulations is worth the price, especially after learning more about the mysterious events that occurred prior to her arrival.
“The Girl Before follows the story of Jane (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who gets the chance to move into a magnificent, ultra-minimalist mansion constructed by a mysterious architect,” according to the official BBC plot synopsis (David Oyelowo).
“There’s only one catch: the inhabitants must follow his stringent set of regulations. Jane begins to see how the house affects her in unexpected ways, but when she discovers the shocking truth about her predecessor, Emma (Jessica Plummer), she is forced to confront unsettling parallels. Jane begins to wonder if her fate will be the same as the one before her when the two women’s timelines intertwine…”
Many people will be able to connect to the main character Jane jumping at the chance to move into a gorgeous, starkly modern house, especially with the housing crisis in the news.
One Folgate Street was designed by visionary designer Edward Monkford and is described as a minimalist haven.

Jane begins to notice how the house affects her in unexpected ways, but when she learns that her predecessor died at the house three years prior, she is forced to confront unsettling parallels in their circumstances. Jane begins to wonder if her fate will be the same as the girl before her when the two women’s timelines intertwine.
JP Delaney is the show’s creator, writer, and executive producer, as well as the author of the book on which it is based.
Episodes will be co-written by Marissa Lestrade (White Stork, Deep State 2), and directed by Emmy-nominated Lisa Brühlmann (Killing Eve, Servant, Blue My Mind).
On December 19, 2021, at 9 p.m., The Girl Before will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

On February 10th, 2022, HBO Max will begin streaming The Girl Before. HBO Max is experimenting with three different monthly plans: ad-supported, mobile, and standard. The ad-supported plan costs Rs 69 per month, with the mobile plan costing Rs 139 and the basic plan costing Rs 329 per month. There are no advertisements on the mobile and regular plans.
Five profiles are supported by all three schemes. Two streams are available in the ad-supported plan, while one and three streams are available in the mobile and standard plans, respectively. The ad-supported and mobile plans only offer SD video quality, however, the basic package allows users to watch 4K material. The ad-supported and normal plans are available on all devices, while the mobile plan is only available on mobile devices.
