Where To Watch “The Tuck Rule”?

In a more accurate sense, “The Tuck Rule,” co-produced by 199 Productions — which also happens to be the production company of one Tom Brady — is the first step in the construction of the post-NFL Tom Brady. It’s a carefully curated version of the truth, one that just happens to break Brady’s way at every turn.

The Raiders-Patriots game’s last play is the subject of “The Tuck Rule.” This was before Tom Brady was dubbed “The Greatest of All Time,” and the Patriots were dubbed “World Destroyers.” When the Raiders arrived in town, intent on eliminating these pretenders and their replacement quarterback, the Patriots hadn’t even won their first of six Super Bowls.

Throughout the game, snow fell in a deep, gentle carpet that was so lovely that Bill Belichick, of all people, was compelled to declare it “romantic.” The snow was so heavy on the field that neither team could accomplish much more than making laborious marches down it, nor the Patriots were down 13-10 with just under two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Brady went back to pass on a crucial third-and-long situation and, seeing nothing, drew the ball back toward his chest. But at that precise moment, Charles Woodson, Brady’s Heisman-winning former Michigan teammate, swooped in from Brady’s right.

“The Tuck Rule” attempts to illustrate the tuck rule through a conceit that is, to be honest, a little cruel. Brady invites Woodson to his magnificent Florida house to relive one of his professional career’s low points face to face. It would have been downright cruel if Woodson hadn’t won his own Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 2010. If Brady hadn’t gone on to win the Super Bowl, the doctor argues, he would have returned to the bench. But that’s for sports radio in 2003; at this point, Brady’s talents and accomplishments are so wide that no single play could have limited them.
