Clint Eastwood directs and produces Cry Macho, a forthcoming American neo-Western drama film based on N. Richard Nash’s 1975 novel of the same name. The storey revolves around a former rodeo star (Eastwood) who is hired to return a young man (Eduardo Minett) to his father (Dwight Yoakam) in the United States.
Eastwood was set to produce an adaptation of the novel with Ruddy, Tim Moore, and Jessica Meier signed as producers in October 2020. Production took place in New Mexico with cameraman Ben Davis in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. Mark Mancina composed the score during post-production.
Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the picture in theatres in the United States on September 17, 2021, with a simultaneous 31-day premiere on the HBO Max streaming service.
Cry Macho also features Natalia Traven as Marta and Dwight Yoakam as Howard Polk, Mike’s old boss, as well as Clint Eastwood himself. Leta is played by Fernanda Urrejola, and Aurelio is played by Horacio Garcia-Rojas.

Cry Macho filming locations
On November 4, 2020, cinematographer Ben Davis began principal photography in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On November 16, filming in the state shifted to Socorro County, where it lasted until November 30. Filming took held in Belen, New Mexico, in December 2020, with the Montao’s Family Restaurant being converted into a cafe for the production.
Crew members had to follow numerous safety precautions while working on set because to the COVID-19 pandemic, including social distance, wearing masks, and getting tested for the virus on a daily basis.
Filming was completed one day ahead of schedule on December 15, 2020. Two days later, it was announced that Fernanda Urrejola would play “the boy’s mother” in the picture, and that Eduardo Minett would act alongside Eastwood, with Dwight Yoakam, Natalia Traven, and Horacio Garcia Rojas rounding out the supporting cast.
The counties of Bernalillo, Sandoval, Sierra, and Valencia were also used as filming sites, according to the New Mexico State Film Office. It was also revealed that the film would feature Alexandra Ruddy, Ana Rey, and Paul Lincoln Alayo, as well as 250 crew people, ten supporting cast members, and over 600 background extras from New Mexico. Joel and David Cox edited the film during post-production, and Mark Mancina composed the musical score for WaterTower Music.
