Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snaer Gudnason were added to the cast of the film in February 2019, with Valdimar Jóhannsson directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sjón. The entire filming took place in Iceland.
Johannsson’s voice is very much his own in the picture, attuned to his homeland’s peculiar culture and the austere beauty of the scenery, which is sometimes covered in mist.
