Who Is This Obnoxiously Tall Lady Alcina Dimitrescu In Resident Evil 8? Backstory And Theories Explored

There’s a saying in the urban gaming legend a game is as good as its villain. If we go by this, then Resident Evil 8 is going to be a legend in itself when it releases on May 7th. Capcom introduced us to an unnamed vampiress in the Resident Evil Village trailer; we didn’t know her name back then, but the demo gameplay revealed her as Lady Dimitrescu.

Resident Evil Village is a direct sequel of Resident Evil 7 and takes place a few years after the Baker House incident. It would not only address the semi cliffhanger of Resident Evil 7 but also conclude the story.

Chris Redfield and Ethan Winters might have returned but the real showstopper was the tall and sultry femme fatale Lady Dimitrescu, known for her love of drinking blood, sometimes even from teacups.

She is anyting but your conventional moster villain from the Evil Verse. We are not aware of whether she’s a bio-organic weapon created long time back or if she had been infected with a progenitor virus. But one thing is for sure that she is about to up the horror ante in the eight edition of the survival-horror genre.

The new games brings together a supernatural ensemble comprising vampires, werewolves, castles, and a strange cult that worships an entity called Mother Miranda! The Umbrella Corporation’s logo was teased in the trailer and Lady Dimitrescu certainly has something to do with it.

We can assume that the Umbrella Corporation might have been more than a bioweapon manufacturer, probably a cult that existed for long. From the time of her appearance, Lady Dimitrescu has taken over the interent with Twitter being filled with memes and fan arts.

Fan are in awe of this seductive villain, seemingly as thirsty for her appearance as she would be for blood. In this video, we will explore Lady Dimitrescu’s world of blood and bodies. We will also explore her backstory, lore, and details you might have missed.

    The Local Tale

    The Local Tale

The trailer shows Mia Winters reading a story which she calls a local tale. It is set in a historical time. The story is about a little girl going to collect berries with her mother for her father who was hard at work. They go to the forest, unfortunately the winters had left the bushes barren with no fruits or flowers.

The little girl gets frenzied; she rushes deep into the woods, leaving her mother behind. While we wouldn’t want this to be a bedtime story but is certainly a link to what will happen. There is a possibility that this story was a reference to Lady Dimitrescu’s past before she turned into a vampire or about Ethan’s infant daughter who had been abducted by Chris, appearing to be a villain amongst the others in Resident Evil Village.

Notwithstanding what it truly might be, the story is rather grim matching the game’s theme. Lady Dimitrescu’s castle is located in a similar environment amidst snow and mist setting a grim and depressing environment.

    Lady Dimitrescu – The Seductress!

    Lady Dimitrescu- The Seductress!

Alcina Dimitrescu is seen in an elegant hat, blood-red lips, and a whilte Victorian-designed robe gives her a sensual and attractive look. Her malicious intentions are intensified with her pale skin and a murderous grin.

In the Resident Evil Maiden Demo, a note says that Castle Dimitrescu has been the source of high-end wines, and their best one is called Sanguis Virginis, which translates to maiden’s blood. Well, is this the secret to Lady Dimitrescu’s charms? However, Dimitrescu’s looks are not her only USP as she stands at a whooping height of 9 foot and 6 inches.

There is a speculation that her enormous height might be the result of a progenitor virus affliction which helps her mutate and gives her abilities like turning her nails into razor-sharp blades. Nevertheless, she remains Resident Evil’s most enticing nemesis up until today.

Lady Dimitrescu- The Inspiration Behind The Character!

Lady Dimitrescu- The Inspiration Behind The Character!

Don’t let her beautiful face fool you as she has been inspired by the most nefarious urban legends. She has three mutated young girls whom she refers as her daughters. Her ‘daughters’ meanwhile can turn into swarms of insects. This is in direct reference to the blood-sucking Dracula and his three maiden brides.

A Japanese urban horror legend describes a tall and curvaceous lady named Hasshaku-sama in a white dress and white hat who eats children aged between 9 and 11. We cannot help but draw similarities between the two. A parallel can be drawn btween Lady Dimitrescu’s stature as the mistress of her castle and the regal but cruel 16th-century Countess Elizabeth Bathory, the first known serial killer responsible for the death of more than a 100 girls.

Resident Evil Village’s art director mentioned that Lady Dimitrescu’s look was partially inspired by the sinister Morticia Addams. The creators did not want the monstrous and zombie-like Ustanak  and Nemesis or mutated villains like Nosferatu or Queen Ant. They went with a more evil and inhuman villain.

With a darker sense of horror, this blood-sipping queen of the underworld was created, and the fans couldn’t be happier. We can safely say that this brand new character is not the staple mutating monster of the R.E-verse.

She may or may not bear tentacles and flesh-whips but definitely wields the most sinister and ominous nature. Lady Dimitrescu will give Ethan a tough time as she is a being of the ancient times who knows her craft; she’s intelligent, vicious, and above all, a vampiress.

Her nomenclature is quite interesting as well. Her last name Dimitrescu is of Greek origin but with the Romanian patronym -escu. Demeter is the Greek goddess of harvest, fertility and birth. This loosely translates Dimitrescu to Son of Demeter or Follower of Demeter.

Although, our villain-lady here feeds off maiden women, she kills innocent virgin girls and harvests their blood to make Sanguis Virginis. Also, Dracula was of Romanian origin.

Lady Dimitrescu- She Is Tall, But She Is Not The Tallest RE Villain!

The aanouncement came out in June last year with a trailer, yet fans don’t seem to have given up the Dimitrescu-fever, and much is being talked about her height. Thanatos from Resident Evil: Outbreak takes the tall villain cake standing at 12 feet while 013 Tyrant from Resident Evil: Damnation stood at 14 feet.

Nevertheless, memes and fan art have flooded the internet. Twitteratti is doing all kinds of hilariously crazy stuff like hiding Ethan between her legs; some are begging Lady Dimitrescu to sit on them while a few want her to chase them. The reason why she’s become a hit among most male players and a few female players is her overpowering and dominant nature.

Many fetishes like Sadism and Masochism was depicted where the thought of being devoured by the malevolent forceseemed to be a turn on. Nevertheless, the positive reception she’s received has made art director Tomonori Takano and the creators more than delighted as they thanked the fandom for showing immense interest and support.

Lady Dimitrescu Bring The Gothic World In RE!

The Romanian village shown in this game is cold and misty, with dilapidated huts and houses. Producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano said in an interview that the players could consider the entire village as a distinct character in its own capacity, and it is reflective of Castle Dimitrescu.

Lady Dimitrescu’s clothing and interior of her castle are Victorian or Edwardian in style. It has a dungeon where prisoners are tortured and killed, the courtyard boasts a maiden’s statue with a sword and shield, the castle’s grand gate, with carved images of the same maiden fighting against a winged demon.

These imageries are reciprocated in the aura that Alcina Dimitrescu bears. We know that she has been the mistress of the castle at least since 1950, but it will be interesting to find her real age and her lore behind the horrid transformation.

    Lady Dimitrescu- Foes and Friends

Resident Evil Village brings back Chris Redfield. He seems to be playing a negative character, the trailer shows him turning Mia into spaghetti sauce with his bullets before he kidnaps Ethan and his infant daughter. Ethan escapes with the help of someone called Heisenberg, whom Lady Dimitrescu refers to as little brother.

It turns out that she is not the supreme authority here, after Ethan’s escape, she makes a phone call to one Mother Miranda, who rebukes Alcina and reminds her of the importance of the ceremony. A cult of villagers also worships Mother Miranda. She could be a religious zealot like Osmund Saddler from Resident Evil 4 or maybe something entirely different. Mother Miranda’s revelation will be the next big thing to know after Lady Dimitrescu’s history and intentions.

The three young girls who are shown in the trailer act as minions of our blood-thirsty tall vampiress. One of them is certainly named Daniela. These young girls have flies around them, can teleport to short distances, and burst into a swarm of insects. We think this might bring back Marguerite Baker and her ability to control insects. To everyone’s happiness, there’s a new dealer in town. He’s big and obese but has a funny tone to himself.

To sum it up, Resident Evil looks and feels rather grim with its underworld character.  After introducing the first-person perspective in Resident Evil 7, they’re continuing it in RE 8. Likewise, the story which began with RE 7 will culminate in a grand showdown in RE 8. On May 7th, we will get answers to many questions, but new questions will arise.

The mummified fetus comes up twice in the trailer and we couldn’t help but relate it to the Umbrella insignia in the castle. Could it be that when James Marcus, Edward Ashford and Ozwell E Spencer laid the Umbrella Corporation’s foundation, they were working for something bigger and more devilish than what we know? After all, the first progenitor virus was discovered and not invented.

This takes the history and legend of The Resident Evil Universe ages back in time. A hint of this was given in the form of the Los Iluminados cult that worshipped the Plaga but back then, no one could think of Capcom pulling off something this huge.

They’ve opened vast and new arenas for themselves and we hope they do great things with it. It leads to many diverse possibilities of storylines and more ferocious villains, along the lines of Lady Dimitrescu.
