If you have been a fan of ‘The Exorcist’ (1973) and enjoy some good old horror, then we have good news for you. Docu-series ‘Sock Docs’ on Discovery+ brings an all-new episode for its viewers on the 5th of February titled ‘The Exorcism of Roland Doe’ that will be exploring the real-life events on which the former was based. For those living under a rock, ‘The Exorcist,’ directed by William Friedkin, is one of the most celebrated horror genre films. Many consider it the scariest film ever made, and speculations suggest that the film’s set itself was cursed. The story revolves around Regan, a 12-year-old who gets possessed by a demon and her mother’s struggles in saving her daughter from the damned. This film scared the living daylights out of its audience and even became the first-ever horror film for an Oscar.
How this episode came to be
What inspired people to go back and explore the horrific events the film is based on is discovering an interview with a monk who was present at Doe’s exorcism. He has recalled terrifying images from his memory of the boy levitating above his bed, just like Regan did in ‘The Exorcist’ and how the devil wreaked havoc in the innocent’s life by capturing his soul. This film, but a book titled ‘The Devil Came to St. Louis’, by author Troy Taylor also tells the story of Roland.

What we know from the trailer
A trailer for this exciting episode of ‘Shock Docs’ captures Maryland, home to Doe, and a voiceover tells the viewer about how a February in 1949 changed the 13-year-old boy’s world forever. Many of the occurrences that are discussed happened to Regan, such as nightmares every day, rattling beds, frenzied fits, and other humanly impossible things that Roland went through as he was in the earlier stages of the possession. Roland’s parents even consulted doctors, but it was all in vain until, they finally, they turned to the Church. Fans can stream this show, others from Discovery+ on YouTube TV, Hulu, and other platforms officially authorized by Discovery+.
