    F. Javier Gutiérrez – Director Of “The Rings,” Is Remaking The 1987 Horror Film “Anguish”

    This week, we discovered that director F. Javier Gutiérrez is working on a remake of the 1987 horror film Anguish, which was directed by Bigas Luna and stars Zelda Rubinstein and Michael Lerner.

    According to the press statement, Kiko Martnez and Antonio Pérez have purchased the rights to adapt the vintage horror film into a mainstream horror flick. Sam Raimi’s production house, Ghost House Pictures, had already considered a remake in 2009.

    In a statement released last week, Gutiérrez said that bringing the classic by Bigas Luna, one of Spain’s most personal and cherished authors, back to the big screen is both a dream and a responsibility. Anguish left an indelible stamp on his life. He says that the movie was unique and daring, fascinating and brutal, yet it’s also a love letter to movies and theatres.
