Mortal Kombat Legends Is Back With Battle Of The Realms

More Mortal Kombat is in the works for Joel McHale and Jennifer Carpenter. After voicing Johnny Cage (McHale) and Sonya Blade (Carpenter) in Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, the actors are reprising their roles as voice actors in Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.

Most of the previous actors are also returning- Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang, Patrick Seitz as Scorpion &Hanzo Hasashi, Artt Butler as Shang Tsung &Cyrax, Robin Atkin Downes as Shinnok & Reiko, Dave B. Mitchell as Raiden, Kintaro&Sektor; IkèAmadi as Jax Briggs & One Being; Grey Griffin as Kitana, Satoshi Hasashi &Mileena; and Fred Tatasciore.

Mortal Kombat was first released in 1992 and has since sold over 49 million copies across a number of games and expansions. Mortal Kombat was also adapted as a live-action film in 1995, with a hard-R revival released earlier this year by New Line.

Screenwriter Jeremy Adams, Director Ethan Spaulding, executive producer Sam Register, producers Rick Morales and Jim Krieg, and creative consultant Ed Boon, who co-created the popular video game with John Tobias, are filmmakers who worked on Scorpion’s Revenge and now are also working on Battle of the Realms.

Matthew Mercer (Stryker & Smoke), Bayardo De Murguia (Sub-Zero/Kuai Liang), Matt Yang King (Kung Lao), Paul Nakauchi (Lin Kuei Grandmaster), Emily O’Brien (Jade), and Debra Wilson (D’Vorah) are among the new cast members.

Warner Bros. Animation collaborated with NeatherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on Battle of the Realms. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment plans to release it in the late summer of this year.

We can only assume that Battle of the Realms will start up where its predecessor left off in terms of plot. The king of Outworld, Shao Kahn, will be preparing his army for an all-out invasion of Earth after his minion Shang Tsung’s defeat in the series’ titular tournament.
