Disney’s New Predator Reboot To Be Titled ‘SKULL’ And Other New Movie Details

Dan Trachtenberg is returning to direct the Predator revival, revealing some interesting new insights.

It’s been a while since Dan Trachtenberg’s surprise Predator film was last updated, but it’s now here. Collider was able to chat with producers John Davis and John Fox about the planned relaunch of the franchise, including confirmation that the film’s title will be Skull, thanks to the Jungle Cruise media expo. It’s a prequel to the original Arnie blockbuster, and it’s almost through production. They also announced that, like the would-be rival Alien franchise, this next Predator film will have a female protagonist.

It goes back to what made the first Predator film work, Davis told Collider. It’s the cleverness of a human being who won’t give up, who can observe and interpret, essentially being able to defeat a greater, more powerful, well-armed force, He said it’s more analogous to The Revenant than any other Predator film.

Davis and Fox lavished praise on director Dan Trachtenberg, stating that watching the dailies reveals how distinct his vision is. He’s developed his own language, which is new, cool, and intriguing. The pair went on to state that the film is around three-quarters of the way through production, which is surprising given how little is known about the plot, release dates, or even the cast.

Davis explained how the film is going so quickly and under the radar by stating that it was conceived while they were filming the previous Predator film. Dan enlisted the help of a writer, and Emma Watts pushed for the project to be developed. We were filming one while preparing for another. As a result, it was always done in complete secrecy.

There is no set release date for the film, but with filming nearly complete, it is likely to be released next year, when we will see if Trachtenberg can live up to the expectations of a solid Predator film following some disappointing previous efforts in the franchise.
