First Look At The Ninth Film In The ‘Saw’ Franchise And The Famous Film It May Remind Fans Of

Whether one enjoys gory thrillers or not, the ‘Saw’ franchise is something no living person is unaware of, unless they live under a rock. Those who could not stomach the first couple of films took their leave, but others stayed on to watch the following eight sequels of the same, with each getting more gruesome and adding more complications that further the plotline. The first saw film was released in 2004, starring Tobin Bell, Leigh Whannell, and Cary Elwes. Directed by James Wan, the film sits at an affirmative 7.6 rating on IMDb.

    The Bousman-Fincher connection

This May, the ninth film in the franchise titled ‘Spiral: From the Book of Saw,’ is set to hit the theatres. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who also directed the second, third, and fourth installments, and stars Chris Rock (Grown Ups), Samuel L. Jackson (‘Pulp Fiction’), and Marisol Nichols (‘Riverdale’). The film’s marketing was brought to a temporary halt when its release date was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now everything seems to be back in full swing. After the release of the first look of the film by Empire, where Chris Rock seems to be investigating what might just be another one of Jigsaw’s gruesome games as is evident from the familiar symbol on the wall, director Bousman has made a statement claiming that the film feels more like ‘Seven’.

What fans can look forward to

David Fincher’s Brad Pitt starrer ‘Seven’ came out in 1995 and was way ahead of its time because of the concepts it tampered with. The story revolved around a detective trying to catch a serial killer on a murderous spree while being true to the tenets of Christianity and only dumped those who committed sin. Although most of Saw’s legacy was about exploring the psychotic depths of Jigsaw’s minds through the ruthless games he plays, this new addition to the franchise may be leaning more towards the investigative aspect of it. Fans are excited to see how Chris will do justice to this severe role unlike his regular comedy genre.
