Masters Of The Universe: Revelation Will Pay Homage To Hellraiser?

Masters of the Universe: Revelation is a sequel that picks up directly from the original series that aired in the 1980’s.

According to the trailer, the sequel picks up precisely where the first series left off. After a cataclysmic conflict between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia has been broken, and the Guardians of Grayskull have dispersed. Teela must rejoin the disbanded band of heroes and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the cosmos’ doom after decades of secrets tore them apart.

It’s one of the most anticipated animated programmes of the year, and it could very well be the ideal setting for He-Man and Skeletor’s final showdown.

The first part of the show will consist of five episodes, all of which will premiere on July 23, and creator Kevin Smith confirmed on Twitter over the weekend that each one will pay homage to an 80s classic.

“In recognition of the era in which @MastersOfficial began, each of the 5 eps in Part 1 of our series pays homage to a different 80’s film!” Smith writes on Twitter. Here’s how he broke it down :-

    • Ep 1 – Superman II (80)
    • Ep 2 – Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (84)
    • Ep 3 – Batman (89)
    • Ep 4 – Hellraiser (87)
    • Ep 5 – Masters of the Universe (87)

You read it correct. This summer, “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” will pay homage to Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, at least in part. It’s unclear whether Smith means subtle homages within the episodes or that each episode is inspired by one of these films in its whole, but either way, it’ll be interesting to see if we can identify the Hellraiser influence in Episode 4!

Batman and Indiana Jones also pique our interest. We can’t wait to catch the episodes as they air on July 23rd!
