Fans were delighted in 2013 with the first release of Pacific Rim. The film provided a refreshing new take on the Kaiju genre, with some amazing battle scenes with excellent visual special effects. Although the second part was not received as well, Pacific Rim: The Black is releasing on Netflix soon, looking to keep the franchise alive. The anime series is being created by Polygon Pictures, the studio behind the animated series for the Transformers franchise. The first full-length trailer for Pacific Rim: The Black was released earlier in February, and we saw the siblings in a wasteland where they find a Jaeger. The animated series is set in Australia.
What we learned from the trailers
The biggest reveal made in the latest trailer is that there would be a human antagonist in the Kaiju world. Some have theorized that the Precursors control a human-like Pacific Rim: Uprising, but so far, that is not a confirmed theory. The new series would explore more of the relationship between the two siblings, and based on the trailers, we expect that to be the primary focus of the series, which is a welcome departure from earlier installments where the emotional attachments were not explored well enough. The franchise is based on giant robots controlled by humans being used to fight giant monsters.
