Trailer For Mad God Has Finally Arrived In All It’s Gory Glory

Phil Tippett, the iconic and Oscar-winning visual effects artist who worked on the original Star Wars trilogy and Starship Troopers, has established himself as a pioneer and master of stop-motion animation. He’s been so busy that his personal stop-motion animated masterpiece, Mad God, took him thirty years to create.

A new trailer gives a first peek sci-fi nightmare ahead of its August 5 premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.

The dystopian scenario of Mad God is described on Tippett’s website as a Miltonesque world of monsters, mad scientists, and war pigs. The plot follows a lone character exploring a weird world filled with frightening animals and madmen, with everything done by hand. The word “nightmarish” is capitalised. Arachnid-esque monsters, dangerous environments, and bizarre piles of undulating meaty beasts may all be seen in the teaser.

After finishing Robocop 2, the stop-motion animation master began the project before pausing it to create dinosaur effects for Jurassic Park. The artist returned to the project after a twenty-year hiatus, releasing it in little shorts between 2014 and 2018. Tippett’s YouTube channel also featured behind-the-scenes footage of his work.

Mad God will appear at the Fantasia Film Festival on August 22, 2021, following its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.

The trailer is out and it has everything we have been promised as part of the movie and more. We see creatures of all kinds, destruction and chaos and masterfully done stop motion work. If the trailer is anything for us to go by, then we are definitely in for a horrific treat this August.

The Fantasia International Film Festival takes place in Montreal since its inception in 1996. It is respected by both diehard genre cinema lovers and distributors across North America. It is held annually in July.
