A prequel series for Supernatural has been announced. Last year, after fifteen seasons, the beloved supernatural series came to an end, much to the disappointment of fans who have followed Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as the Winchester brothers for a really long time. The CW has ordered a Supernatural prequel series called The Winchesters that will follow Sam and Dean’s parents, and it’s been reported that the network is hoping to revitalise the show by taking the tale back in time.
The Winchesters is executive produced by Ackles, who will reprise his role as Dean Winchester and serve as the show’s narrator. Danneel Ackles, who played Danneel on Supernatural in a recurring role, is also executive producing. Robbie Thompson, a former co-executive producer on Supernatural, will executive produce and write the series. The prequel has a written commitment from the CW.

We knew Supernatural’s 15th season wasn’t going to be the last. Nothing really truly ends, does it?’ as we say on the programme, Ackles said.
John and Mary Winchester were previously portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith on the television show Supernatural. It was revealed that Mary was murdered by a demon when Sam was still a newborn, causing John to become a hunter in order to seek revenge for her death and pass on his knowledge to his two boys. Early in the second season, John was also killed off.
John and Mary came before Sam and Dean. The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they risked everything to save not only their love, but the entire world from the standpoint of Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), the narrator.
When Danneel and Ackles started Chaos Machine Productions, the first tale we wanted to tell was the origin storey of Supernatural, or the story of John and Mary Winchester. Ackles always assumed that his character, Dean, would be curious about his parents’ relationship and how it developed and we finally get to see it!
