Spielberg Says A Firm NO To Him Directing A Jaws Reboot

Universal seems to be interested in reviving the Jaws series with Steven Spielberg on board as a producer. However, Steven Spielberg, the filmmaker of the original smash hit, made it clear that that plan was doomed to fail. This appears to be a case of over his dead corpse. So, at the very least, this will not happen while Spielberg is still alive. However, it appears to be a hint that no cult classic is sacred these days, as studios are desperate to discover projects that will pique the interest of moviegoers and fans.

Amblin, Steven Spielberg’s production company, has announced an agreement with Netflix. Amblin will produce multiple films for the streaming service each year as part of the deal. The Jaws news was hidden within the reports. As per the article, Universal broached the subject to revive Spielberg’sblockbuster, with Spielberg producing. The response was believed to be a “resounding no.” And that’s all there is to it.

There’s no way of knowing what Universal had in mind, if anything at all. Were they planning on making a remake of Jaws? Were there any plans for a sequel set in the same universe as the first?

Jaws is one of the most well-known film franchises in cinema history, yet it has been dormant for decades. It would be huge if they could convince Steven Spielberg to sign on as a producer for a new instalment. However, it appears that Spielberg is uninterested in tarnishing the legacy of his cherished classic.

The smash hit was released in 1975. Following Duel and The Sugarland Express, it was Steven Spielberg’s first attempt into blockbuster filmmaking, based on Peter Benchley’s 1974 novel of the same name. It was a box office triumph, grossing $470 million worldwide against a reported budget of under $12 million. In addition, he is credited with inventing the summer blockbuster as we know it.

There have been Jaws sequels without Spielberg but it just isn’t the same and it looks like there will not be any in the future either.
